The Best Makeup Schools

I often get asked “where did you go to makeup school?” The truth is, I didn’t. Not because I didn’t want to but because way back in 1998 I was afraid. What if I couldn’t find a job? What if I was unable to make money to support myself? Instead I became a Lab Tech and fantasized about what life would be like if I was able to paint faces all day. It didn’t take long (1 year to be exact) in my Lab Tech position before I quit and pursued my dreams of being an artist. Almost 20 years later here I am.

I didn’t go to makeup school. I was lucky enough to get a job at MAC Cosmetics in 2001 where I had phenomenal on the job training and talented peers that took me under their wings. That doesn’t mean that I don’t think makeup school is important. It absolutely is! I had to kick down so many doors to be taken seriously because most of my competitors had MUA certificates. My advice to anyone going into the industry is to find a reputable makeup school. Make sure it is not only a recognized school (you have heard great things about the education, teachers etc) also make sure that the Diploma will be recognized as well. If you are in BC Blanche Macdonald is a go to. But what if you don’t live there and cannot move?

I HIGHLY recommend Artists Within Makeup Academy. Top notch teachers, palatable tuition and there is even an option for home study. The diploma that you will receive is ITEC approved which means your certification is internationally recognized and respected in the industry. The campus director is a phenomenal Artists on the pulse of trends and techniques and you will probably have seen her on CTV sharing her tips and tricks. Check out her Instagram Tara Cowles

I believe so much in this academy that I am now a recruiter for the Edmonton market. If you have any questions feel free to email me at denee@artistswithin.com
